My Bio

I’m a professional illustrator and comic artist with a decade of experience, having been published by IDW/Marvel, Z2 Comics, Archie, Heavy Metal, Scout, Zenescope, Top Shelf, Image, Upper Deck, and many others. I take pride on my reliability and versatility, as well as my simple, but hopefully effective storytelling style.

I focus on comics and sequential art, but have experience in mobile game art, RPG illustrations, sketch cards, and storyboard production.

2020/21 Update

1 min read
The past two years have been my most successful, career-wise. Kind of an awkward feeling, considering the state of the world. But there it is. I made my IDW (and Marvel) debut, illustrating three issue of Marvel Action Avengers. I also made my Star Wars debut, with a back-up feature in Star Wars Adventures (2020) #5. And finally, I made my Z2 Comics debut, contributing almost 40 pages to the Public Enemy anthology, Chuck D Presents: Apocalypse 91. In between, Hero Tomorrow Comics successfully Kickstarted the horror comic Bloom, which I'd been working on for awhile; I am also part of the art team on Modern Mania Wrestling, a mobile game which launched and is going strong; and I worked on some pitches and various other projects here and there. I hope everyone is surviving, and maybe even thriving in these uncertain times. Stay safe, all!

Plus, I'm the type of person who will research things incessantly, so I've read more than my share of their titles-- "for research" of course! I know enough, for example, to dispel notions that Zenescope produces lurid or indecent comics. Beneath the (admittedly cheesecake) covers are stories with rather strong female characters who actually wear pants! Of course, there are exceptions, but for the most parts, the editorial staff keeps things surprisingly clean. And yet, the GFT Universe can still surprise me. I recently worke

Quick tip for comic artists -- print out your scripts with a really small font (Calibri 8 works for me), make the margins bigger (I put 2 inches on the right side). I use all that extra space to doodle the lay-outs. Having the entirety of the page script on one sheet of paper really helps in feeling out the "shape" of the page, if that makes sense.

Hey Butch, it's Johnathan Wright. Since I found so many great artists here when I did the first version of the "Mecha vs. Kaiju" role playing game, I figured I'd set myself up here permanently! If you know anyone interested in working on a new RPG book send them my way, would you? Thanks dude.
Awesome artwork here!
